Massage Therapy

What is the difference between Integrative Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage?
Source: ABMP

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue to promote blood circulation of the muscles and joints, removing waste products in the body and easing pain. It also enhances tissue healing from surgery and minor injury, lower blood pressure, and improves posture.

The most common types of massage are:

Swedish Massage:

Applies gentle gliding strokes to ease the tension of muscles and increase blood flow for pure relaxation. Swedish massage is the basis for all other massage techniques.

Deep Tissue Massage:

Uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia to break up scar tissue from injury caused by trauma or overuse.

Prenatal Massage:

A gentle massage, given throughout pregnancy to alleviate the stress, anxiety and discomfort of pregnancy, such as back pain, acid reflux, swelling of the muscles, insomnia, irritability, fatigue, nausea, and constipation. During the latter stages of pregnancy, the client is massaged while lying on her side. Our therapists have specific prenatal training.

Some general benefits of massage:

  • Increases lymph drainage and blood circulation
  • Improves body posture and body alignment through proper muscle balance
  • Assists awareness of habitual holding patterns that create muscular imbalances
  • Inhibits and breaks up scar tissue
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Alleviates discomfort during pregnancy
  • Produces deep relaxation, allowing the body to rejuvenate

Massage is not only a treat, but a valuable component of a well-rounded healthcare and maintenance treatment plan and can benefit many health concerns.

At Many Lives Chines Medicine, massage therapy is a hands on approach to healing and is an intricate part of the overall health maintenance plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I except during my massage?

There is nothing like going to get a massage! You will want to wear loose fitting clothing. You will be greeted by the massage therapist in our private and beautiful treatment room.

The massage therapist checks in with the client and asks questions that pertain to the specific complaints or requests.

The client is then asked to undress to their comfort level and usually asked to lay face down on the massage table between clean and crisp sheets.  The massage will be either 60 or 90 minutes and usually the client takes a deep nap.

After, water is offered and encouraged. Any additional feedback may come from the therapist and a specific recommendation for follow-up massages.

What can I wear during my massage?

How can massage help?

We offer massage as an option for those who would like to further their musculoskeletal, orthopedic treatments and for those who would like a more hands on approach to their healing.

Wonder if you need a massage?

The answer is always yes.  Massage has so many medicinal benefits one can not go wrong with choosing to have a massage.  From decreasing blood pressure to alleviating pain massage has many benefits.  For example, if you slept wrong and woke with a stiff neck, schedule a massage! More often then not it is not just the stiff neck that is bothering you.

We regularly hear that a patient comes in for a stiff neck and realizes their low back and digestion were also way off.  After the massage their neck is better AND they feel lighter and more range of motion in their low back AND they now are having regular bowel movements.  That is a common outcome in our office.

What types of massage do you offer?

We offer several types of massage choices.  Our massage therapist, with over 20 years of experience, has the wisdom to customize the massage to the patients needs.  Our clients benefit from sports massage, deep massage and pregnancy massage. Our therapist also integrates energy work throughout and customizes the experience for each individual patient.

What makes your clinic different when it comes to massage therapy?

Our clinic is a relaxing destination in the crazy world of “busy”.

Situated right on the water in the middle of the Bay Area is a resting space that happens to be our office. We repeatedly hear comments from our patients that we have “such a beautiful spot!” Visiting our office is like being on vacation – for real.

Our treatment rooms are gorgeous and relaxing which is a good start to the treatment.

When you book and hour, you get an hour. Always. Not the usual 50 minutes that happens at other businesses. We want to give you the best massage ever. Our therapists are well trained and very professional. We also have a sense of humor.

We guarentee you will leave relaxed. Every time.
